Resource Guide

Explore Your Way to Wellness

We know healthy living habits are shaped early in life. inspireU is committed to improving long-term physical and mental health outcomes across our region. We want to provide adults with the language and information they need to help the children in their lives develop lifelong healthy habits.

Throughout our discovery center, you’ll find signs with important information and unique QR codes centered around our five key themes of Movement, Nutrition, Curiosity, Mindfulness, and Connection. Each QR code connects to resources that provide additional resources to address these questions:

  • How do I keep myself healthy?
  • How do I keep my family healthy?
  • How do I keep my community healthy?

Movement

Getting Outdoors

Help children get comfortable being outside. Time in nature can reduce anxiety and help us reset. You can help by building family traditions outdoors that can include things as simple as taking walks.
Play games of observation. What colors can you see? What sounds do you hear? How many different shapes do you see?

60 Active Minutes a Day

Joyful, social, physical movement helps us feel comfortable in our bodies and improves our mood.
Kids should spend 60 minutes each day being physically active. This can be 10 or 15 minutes at a time. Make active play a regular part of your family life.

Move to Improve Your Mood

Moving your body lifts your mood.

Going outdoors and away from screens is even better.
Active play helps kids feel better about their bodies and feel better about themselves. Physical activity also can help reduce feelings of depression and anxiety in kids (and grownups too).

Our region has so many places to enjoy the outdoors. Which local spot would you like to explore?

Nutrition

Find Your Food

Fresh food is best! Help your family eat healthier. Discover our local Farmers Market.

Drink Water not Sugar

Drink up! Your body needs plenty of water. But it does NOT need extra sugar. Choose water over soda or other sugary drinks.

Bigger, Faster, Stronger

Children need calcium to support their growth. They should eat or drink 3 to 4 servings of high-calcium foods each day. Did you know that some vegetables are an excellent source of calcium?

Curiosity

Mosaic Life Care Foundation Scholarships

Building lifelong learners. Since 1984, 2,500 academic scholarships totaling over $2 million have been awarded.

Learning at Their Own Pace

Every child learns and grows at their own pace. Developmental stages are broad guidelines, not checkboxes. Play is an important part of every child’s development. Playful activities with adults help children develop skills and connect.

Learn games to play with your child at every stage.

Talk With Your Baby

You can have a “conversation” with your child before they can talk. Notice—what is your child seeing or hearing? Respond and encourage them.

Mindfulness

When Should Your Child Visit a Doctor?

It is important to have a pediatrician who knows about your child’s health over time. Learn more about the schedule for well-child visits for children from birth to 4 years old.

Community Nurse Health Line

If you do not have a doctor, have questions about your child’s health, or need help with resources, call the Community Nurse Health line.

Unplug to Strengthen Connections

Babies and toddlers learn best from the real world, not from screens.

They learn emotional and social clues from people. Keep screen time to less than one hour a day.

Connection

Read. Explore. Wonder.

Before they can speak, children gain language skills from listening. Reading is a cozy way to connect with your child. They learn emotional cues from your face and voice.

The Missouri River

We can all help keep the Missouri River clean. Find a river cleanup:
